What can Waldorf Education teach us? – new report by the Edge Foundation

We’re pleased to share a thoughtful new blog published by the Edge Foundation, exploring what Waldorf education can contribute to the future of schooling in England.

Appearing on Edge’s respected platform – widely read by education leaders and policy makers – the article places Waldorf education firmly within the national conversation about how education must evolve in response to rising mental health challenges, increasing SEND needs, school absenteeism, and the growing impact of AI.

Drawing on a major new report led by Professor Bill Lucas (University of Winchester), the blog highlights four long-standing Waldorf practices: experiential, interdisciplinary, playful and creative learning. Together, these approaches are shown to support not only academic understanding, but also empathy, resilience, collaboration, critical thinking and wellbeing – the very qualities young people increasingly need to thrive.

As the government reviews the national curriculum, the timing of this research could not be more relevant. It offers evidence that education does not need to choose between knowledge and skills, or exams and personal development, but can – and should – cultivate both.
