As part of this inorganic chemistry main lesson Class 7 learnt about the limecycle and connected this to local Sussex industry and the importance of chalk in cement, iron and glass production, and neutralising acidic soil.  Often items come pre made and packaged, and industry shuts its doors to the public for safety so the students don't see how they are made. As part of the experiential learning we built a lime kiln, loaded it and  heated up some local chalk to make quicklime to turn into mortar.
