Class 4AD Poems and Drawings

After spending two days exploring and camping on the school grounds, Class 4AD shared their experiences in their poems and artwork. Their beautiful responses reveal the details, feelings and discoveries that emerged from seeing a familiar landscape with fresh eyes.

Michael Hall is my school,
Michael Hall had a pool.
Kidbrooke Park is the school’s new home,
Which goes to show how much it’s grown.
So many lucky children have attended;
Last year, Michael Hall turned a hundred!

The Oak Tree

There was an oak in Michael Hall
It was there until it fell,
Then a young oak grew in his place.
That oak still lives,
And the little oak is its son.

Camping at the Stone Circle

At three o’clock in the morning,
Sometime before the day was dawning,
I woke David up by hitting his butt,
And then he started yawning.
Luckily, he was in a good mood,
So we could go to the compost loos.
After that I couldn’t really get to sleep;
I managed a bit, but not very deep.
Once out of bed, I kept bumping my head,
‘Cause when I feel sleepy,
I act like a dummy,
Which is very funny!

In the beginning,
There were seven children learning
And five teachers teaching.

In 1935, a new name came alive,
And that name today still survives.

On the way, they met the day
Where Kidbrooke is Michael Hall’s
New place to stay.

Now, since May of 1957,
We are in the building
Where we do all our learning.

Michael Hall, in Forest Row,
Is a place where children learn and grow.
We play all day in the sun
And we have lots and lots of fun.
We go on loads of school trips,
And love playing pick-up sticks.

Michael Hall is a very big school,
with lots of children.
We do lots of drawing and writing.
It’s a Steiner School.

Michael Hall is a hundred years old,
Full of stories not yet told.
My story is of us camping in the cold,
Sitting around the fire, telling stories of old.

Every day I do to school,
Every day I sit on my stool.
I wait for the teacher to shake my hand.
In my head, I have the whole day planned.
And everything they taught me,
And every time they thought of me.

Michael Hall is totally cool,
It’s a different kind of school.
I walk to school, it is all downhill,
In time for register with Miss Dill.
Michaelmas, Advent, and Midsummer fairs,
We all dress up, we all do our hair.
We play in the forest and grow things to eat.
I love Eurythmy, it’s really neat!

Michael Hall is where I go to school.
Some teachers are short, and some are tall.
Here is where the Mansion lies;
We used to learn how to swim but never fly!
Running through the ground there’s a river called the Kidd,
Some gnomes might be found if you can see where they’re hid.
My mum works in the kitchen and makes all the school dinners,
She has to feed the children so that they stop getting thinner.
I am so happy Michael Hall’s my school,
We’ll go there every day and promise not to break the rules.

Full of greens everywhere
They are strong.
They are big.
They are living.
They bring you joy.
They make you happy.
They give you love.
They are peaceful withing Michael Hall.

Festivals, crafts, and play,
Learning, laughing every day.
Always try, that’s the rule,
This is our amazing school!
