Class 3 Shelters

After Easter, Class 3 began their second shelters and dwellings main lesson block, exploring the history of homes in Sussex from the Iron Age to the medieval period, and learning how modern brick and timber houses are built. This deepened their understanding of the homes they live in today and supported their developmental need for security and self-expression during the nine-year change. The children particularly enjoyed hands-on activities like practicing bricklaying with mini-bricks. Each child designed and built a model shelter based on a historical or cultural example, imagining the life of someone who might live there. Their simple, pre-industrial structures were made from natural materials, helping them connect with the past and appreciate the skill involved in traditional building methods.
