Class 12 Animal Farm

Following the Class 12 production of Animal Farm last week, here are some highlights from the students as they reflect on their experience of bringing the play to life.

"...the story is very applicable in today's world - every system has it's flaws, and the flaws are what makes everything follow the same pattern"

"I understood how a society or community is one body and saw each character in myself, learning about the light and the dark...most importantly being conscious of it, not needing to fix it or change it, but to recognise.."

"Animal Farm highlights political cycles, and how there is always a part of the story that you don't know. How easily propaganda can manipulate belief and perception, and how with more power and ease of living additional agendas form."

(A highlight for me was) "the turning point of the play, feeling that we can actually perform this. All the scenes and characters beginning to link. I also loved being able to get angry without having to actually be mad at someone!"

"It was incredible to play an 'ugly' character, and such a vulnerable experience to expose that side of myself to audiences and my classmates repeatedly, but especially to accept it for myself as the 'shadow' of my self is difficult to experience"

"I don't always approach people outside my friendship group - how do I start a conversation with them? With the play I was around everyone, we were seemingly 'mid-conversation' the whole time. We had to build a lot of trust with each other, I feel we were unified by a common goal"

"I think getting involved to the best of my ability and stepping into something I found uncomfortable was the best thing I could have done as it will set me up better in life to overcome challenging events"

"..getting to wear my wellies on the big stage.. Also just Saturday night full stop.. enough said.. the end"

"It was great to have a break from the pressure of A levels. I think we feel refreshed and ready to approach them with will, strength and love"
