Class 11 Social Practical Trip

Last week I had the opportunity to join Class 11 on their trip to the Ringwood area of Dorset.
The students worked and interacted with adults with learning differences, who meaningfully contribute to the two communities that hosted them for the week. It was a rewarding experience, offering opportunities to learn and develop a greater understanding of an alternative community structure.

They worked hard on the farms — tending to the pigs and goats, milking the cows, and learning all about pasteurisation and packaging the milk. They also trimmed hedges, weeded among the tomatoes, thyme and lemon balm, and painted the chicken coop and a dog kennel, to name just a few of the tasks.
The group stayed at a scout camping and activity centre, with plenty of space to play football and frisbee. They even got to listen to the England vs Congo world cup match on the radio, and rounded off the week with an afternoon on the beach.
