Photo of St John's Fire by Jon Ashe (Class of 1977)

Thank you, Jon, for giving Class 12 — and all Class 12s to come — such a wonderful photograph of the St John's Fire to have in their classroom.

"This year was especially perfect for the fire - little wind, clear skies, warm, proper Midsummer!"

When the students return after the summer holidays, the fire itself will be something to look forward to at the end of their school year – taking the torches and walking up the south lawn to the valley field to light the fire and sing the songs they have learnt for Italy. There is so much ahead of them in this last year of school: A-levels, plays, festivals, the Midsummer Festival with the fire, fundraising, and finishing with their Class 12 trip.

Old Scholar Jon Ashe (Class of 1977) began his career in police photography and went on to work for many years in crime scene investigation for Sussex Police mainly in East Sussex. Now retired, Jon finds himself back in Forest Row running the Riverview Café in Station Road, Forest Row - do pop in and see more of his wonderful photography displayed on the walls over some of the best coffee in the area and a bacon butty to die for! Jon is always keen to see MH Old Scholars so please introduce yourself. It's a good venue for informal mini reunions.
