Old Scholar Rachael Austin (class of 1993) wins Gold!
We are so proud to share that our Old Scholar Rachael Austin (Class of 1993) has been awarded an RHS Gold Medal and named Best Artisan Garden at the inaugural RHS Badminton Flower Show for the beautiful Ruskin Mill Trust Artisan Woodland Craft Garden.
The garden also received a Highly Commended award for Environmental Innovation, a particularly meaningful recognition for Austin Design Works as a certified B Corp committed to creating socially purposeful and ecologically responsible places.
Commissioned by The Ruskin Mill Trust, the garden was designed to demonstrate how landscape, nature and traditional craft can support young people with special educational needs and disabilities.
Rachael is a Chartered Landscape Architect and professional Garden Designer, based in the Stroud Valleys in Gloucestershire, she is a qualified arboriculturist and holds memberships of both the Landscape Institute and the Society of Garden Designers. Rachael works with her brother Matt, also an Old Scholar (class of 1996) and co-founder of Austin Design Works. Matt Austin is a third-generation Architect, and interestingly, the Lower school building (classrooms for classes 1 to 5) which backs onto Priory Road was designed by their grandfather.
