Class 6EN visited Fishbourne Roman Palace

On a beautiful sunny day this week, Class 6EN adventured to Fishbourne Roman Palace, the largest domestic Roman building to yet be found in Britain. This was part of their main lesson on the Rise of Ancient Rome.
At Fishbourne Roman Palace, the class were transported to the time of 75AD, where they experienced the crafts and games of the people who would have lived in the palace. The class wrote in Roman letters on wax tablets and papyrus; spun thread with a spindle; created mosaics from the very tiles found in the palace; ground grain; made an Etruscan arch and played in the Roman kitchen.
In the palace itself, the children were awe-struck by the ornate and intricate designs of the many mosaics. They enjoyed the time to sketch quietly. One child summed up what many said, "If I could redo the day, I would have wanted to stay longer to look at the mosaics for longer and do more drawing."
