Celebrating Michaelmas in Oak Tree Outdoor Nature Kindergarten

On Tuesday we had a wonderful time celebrating Michaelmas in Kindergarten, welcoming parents to join us towards the end of the morning with courage, and for community and purposeful work.
In Waldorf schools, Michaelmas is a time to awaken our courage, strength, endeavour and inner resolve as we move from the brightness of Summer into the cooler, darker months of Autumn and Winter. For us in Oak Tree Kindergarten, this spirit was expressed through working together to care for and prepare our space for the changing season.
Together, children, parents and grandparents planted bulbs in our garden beds, helped to move and spread woodchip, cut back brambles, made kindling bundles of birch twigs for our daily fires, and tidied our Willow House.
It was lovely to see children, parents and grandparents working side by side, sharing in the meaningful work of taking care of our Kindergarten together. The hard work, laughter and sense of community captured the spirit of Michaelmas.
As nature begins its journey towards Autumn and Winter, Michaelmas reminds us to find courage and strength within ourselves and to nurture our own inner light, and our Festival gave us a beautiful opportunity to experience this together.
