Pageant at Midsummer

Classes 1 to 5 gathered on the Valley Field to open this year's Midsummer Pageant with a recital of Cecil Harwood's poem 'A Song of King Arthur's Castle' — its image of knights like stars and a sun-gold sea.

Each class then brought something of their own. Class 1 marked the rising sun with a burst of colour. Class 2 sang 'Hey Wichichaio', drawing on the theme of Original Cultures. Class 3AD performed a traditional ceilidh dance, rooted in the barn dances that once marked the harvest across the country. Class 3VG offered a reflection on the peace of country life. Class 4 performed 'Summer Comes Laughing', a traditional German children's song accompanied by Eurythmy.

Class 5TG, with their Olympics camp on the horizon, brought energy and juggling! Class 5EN shared a Rudolf Steiner's verse on the flower and the butterfly, and the freedom that comes with being released into the cosmos.

The pageant closed with all five classes together, singing Cecil Harwood's 'Song for St John's Fire', calling on earth and heart alike to light the flame.
