Willow Tree Saplings

“Dilly Dilly Duck, Dilly hey hey ho!
All the little ducks waddle in a row.
Some are white and some are yellow,
All of them a pretty fellow.
Waddle to the water and in you go.
Splash!”

Traditional children's song, reported as French in origin; collected in The Singing Year by Candy Verney.

What a wonderful week this has been at Willow Tree Saplings. After such a warm half term, we were so grateful to feel the raindrops on our cheeks and splash in puddles again. The showers brought a welcome freshness to our days, and water play felt more joyful than ever.

Our circle time has been full of beautiful songs about ducks splashing in the water, fishes in the sea, and rowing boats. Through song and play, the children have been exploring counting backwards to discover how many ducks were left after adventuring “over the hills and far away” and always so relieved to hear they 'all came back again!'.

We have also been enjoying playing Duck, Duck, Goose in the forest, nurturing the children's sense of rhythm, social awareness, and confidence in movement, as they experience both individuality and belonging within the wider group, where we are reminded of the beauty of our community, where each child brings something unique and special to our circle of friends.

Soon, we will be waddling up to the vegetable garden, where we have heard the wonderful news that Class 3’s ducklings are ready to venture out onto their run. We are excited to meet these fluffy new friends and watch them explore the world around them.
