Class 7 Main Lesson Work
Class 7 are at the beginning of the birth of the intellect where they start to 'look out into the world' and explore. At this age they can reason, can form strong critical judgements and are beginning to have objectivity. They are just starting to be able to distance their feelings from their judgements. In this we teach them about the world they live in and try to help them view the world from different perspectives.
7RG started with perspective drawing and then had a medieval history main lesson which included the history of Islam giving them alternative perspectives on religion. The House of Wisdom in Bagdad then led nicely to an algebra main lesson where we looked at problem solving changing the perspective of how we can solve maths. The astronomy main lesson followed and this starts with our view point from Earth moving through history to show how we now understand our place in the Universe and as our understanding changes so does our perspectives. We discussed how space travel could progress, other lifeforms and whether leaving the planet is a good idea thinking about future perspectives. The class then worked on an independent project on either an Asian or African country, went deeper into areas that interest them, made connections to other cultures and people and were able to include their personal opinions on the country. We also looked at Japanese woodcuts in art and experienced another way of looking at the World.
