Class 4TG End-of-Year Trip
Shortly before the summer holidays, Class 4TG hiked from the Long Man of Wilmington to West Dean, drinking in the scenery and barely ever saying, 'Why do we have to walk?' There we camped for two nights and went kayaking on the Cuckmere River, before scaling the Seven Sisters in blazing heat and trudging towards a swim of glory at our final destination - Birling Gap. To quote one of my colleagues who was saying this slightly in jest, 'If we only did our trips and our plays, the children would still be getting a great education,' in a deeper sense of the word. I witnessed this time what she meant: so many children made so many important personal breakthroughs that simply wouldn't have happened in the classroom.
