Oak Tree Nature Kindergarten

This week, the children in Oak Tree Nature Kindergarten ventured on a long walk to the Iron Spring on the far side of the school grounds, where we set afloat the little bark boats we had made together. As an outdoor Kindergarten group, these seasonal journeys into the grounds are a familiar part of Oak Tree's rhythm. With great delight, we watched our tiny boats drift along the stream, as we told each other stories of where they might be going.

These little boats symbolise the journey we have all shared throughout the year, walking together through the seasons, from autumn's abundance of acorns and chestnuts, warming hands by the fire on frosty mornings, listening to the steady drumming of the woodpecker in the nearby trees in early spring, then welcoming the nesting blue tits into our Kindergarten space, and more recently, we found cool shade beneath the leafy canopy during the heatwave.

The boats also reflect the new journey our older children will soon begin as they go into Class 1. It is a joyful milestone, and one for which they are all so wonderfully ready.
