Friday Flyer - 9th July 2026
Dear Michael Hall Community,
Welcome to the final Thursday Flyer of this academic year! What has gone well has been brilliant and what we need to work on, we will do so one determined step at a time.
It has been a real pleasure to have worked through my first year in Michael Hall. When I applied for and was then successfully appointed, I knew the history of the school. Now that I am working here, I feel that history and am very proud to be part of a committed body of colleagues who work tirelessly to give the very best Waldorf education we possibly can.
Thank you to all of those across all ages in the community who have taken the time to contact me through emails or give good wishes in passing. These greetings and moments of personal well-wishing have meant a lot and have really helped me to find my feet in what is a very different setting from where I have been before.
I have written a short piece on my first year in Michael Hall, but it is a bit too long for the Flyer. It has been such a great experience and has created so many moments of reflection, growth and understanding; I still love learning! I will share once I have posted it somewhere so that those who are interested can read it, and those who have enough of my ramblings on a weekly basis can ignore it!
As is ever the way, we will be bidding farewell to pupils and colleagues at the end of this term. To all those who are moving to pastures new, we wish them well on the next stage of their journey. However, I would like to remind them that they are always welcome back as Old Scholars, Parents of Old Scholars, or as Old Colleagues.
Having been raised as a Christian, asking for forgiveness for my trespasses was part of my weekly routine in church. Whilst working in an Arabic setting, I learned that within that culture there is a deep attachment to forgiveness and atonement, particularly when parting for any length of time - The manner and depth with which it was expressed has always sat with me. So, with those two strong intentions in mind, forgive us for what went wrong and accept our intention to rebuild, repair and reinvent for the new academic year.
I wish everyone a lovely summer and look forward to reconnecting when we begin re-establishing the rhythms and routines for 2026-27.
Warmest wishes and safe travels for all those fortunate enough to be heading off somewhere for a break,
Warm wishes,
Stuart

CLASS 9 GCSE ENGLISH LITERATURE
|
|
Having very much enjoyed teaching Class 8 English this year, and with Stuart McWilliams' agreement, I'm offering private GCSE English Literature tuition for students keen to study literature in more depth than the school timetable allows next year. I have 24 years' teaching experience and would run a small online group after school, one lesson a week, with a Google Classroom for resources — though students will need to be motivated to read independently, as one lesson a week alone isn't enough to cover the GCSE.
If your son or daughter might be interested, please get in touch:

Kidbrook Park Music Festival
|
|
The Kidbrooke Park Music Festival is back again in the Autumn term, and will take place on the weekend of 24th and 25th October. Please note that this is the first weekend of the autumn half term, not the last weekend as usual. This is to avoid a clash with Halloween. Keep the dates free! As ever, it promises to be a memorable weekend of incredible concerts.
We are inviting young musicians from Michael Hall and the wider community to form this year’s Festival Youth Orchestra and work with a group of professional musicians from the Philharmonia Orchestra. This year we are programming the beautiful and exhilarating Capriol Suite by Warlock, especially arranged to include as many instrumentalists as possible. As in previous projects, there will be parts for all orchestral instruments, at all levels from grade 1 to 8 and above. Violin, viola, cello, bass, clarinet, flute, oboe, bassoon, harp (both lever and pedal), and all brass instruments are welcome, as well as percussion players.
The young musicians will need to learn their parts with their instrumental teachers well in advance so they can take full advantage of this wonderful opportunity. It allows them to both learn from and be inspired by the professional musicians around them. We are therefore opening the applications from June 8 so that the students have plenty of time to prepare their parts.
Dates are as follows:
Rehearsal 1 - Friday 23rd October 2025: 10am - 1pm, in the Dick Chester Studio at Michael Hall.
Rehearsal 2 - Sunday 25th October: 10 - 11:30am
Concert - Sunday 25th October: 3pm
We very much look forward to welcoming your son/daughter to the Youth Orchestra for this exciting project. Please fill in the application form - here - and return via email to [email protected], or via Michael Hall School Reception in a clearly marked envelope to KP Music Festival, Music Department.
We ask for a contribution of £20 towards costs for each young musician. This includes their free ticket to the rest of the concert. We do have a modest KP Festival Bursary for those that would like financial support. Please tick the box on the application form if you would like to be considered for this.

A Thank You to Our Principal
|
|
As we reach the end of the academic year, the Board of Trustees would like to thank Stuart for his service to the Michael Hall community.
Throughout the year, Stuart has led with integrity, professionalism and openness, demonstrating a clear commitment to the wellbeing and education of every student at Michael Hall. Trustees have particularly valued his visible presence throughout the school community—from morning drop-offs and school events to performances, parent evenings, the AGM, and his thoughtful Friday Flyer reflections. These have helped strengthen relationships and build confidence across our community.
We are grateful for Stuart's collaborative approach to working with staff, students, parents and Trustees. His aspiration for excellence, together with his dedication to our school and its future, gives us great confidence as we look ahead.
On behalf of the Board, thank you, Stuart, for everything you have contributed this year. We wish you and your family a restful summer and look forward to building on this year's progress together.

Ways to Contribute
If you feel you can help support the Blossom Fund, there are several ways you can give:
- One-off donations
- Standing orders
- Online contributions via our website
- Legacy gifts
- We are also exploring how charitable donations!
Donate Here
Every gift, large or small, will directly help open the doors of a Waldorf education to more children. To put some context, if we had 10 people donating £20 per month, that equates to 10% of a child's fees that we could support.
If you would like to find out more on how to donate, please email [email protected] or contact me directly.
