Friday Flyer - 20th June 2025

Dear Michael Hall Community,

What beautiful weather we are having! I hope you all have the opportunity to enjoy the warmth and sunshine.

The pupils thoroughly enjoyed having the circus onsite last week, and opening our grounds to the public for the evening shows. They returned to the school this year, for the first time in 3 years, especially for our Centenary. What an incredibly talented group, we hope to welcome them back again in future years.

Last year’s Midsummer Festival was the start of our Centenary; this year marks the end of our celebrations. This year has been a time of reverence, appreciation and excitement; spending time reflecting on our achievements and making plans for the future. New shoots from old roots.

The whole school community has been busy preparing for the Midsummer Festival this week, from Class 1-5 practicing the pageant on the Valley Field; Classes 9 & 11 performing their dress rehearsals for The Fiddler on the Roof JR in the Theatre on Wednesday and Thursday; to the Estates Team working hard to get the site ready for your arrival; and parents preparing for their contributions for tomorrow. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the parent body for once again volunteering their time and efforts to support the school.

We have the usual sideshows, pageant and performance on offer this year, as well as displays of the pupils’ work in the Dick Chester, Eurythmy Studio and the Clock House. You’ll find the Information and Alumni stand in front of the Mansion, where there will be an additional Centenary stall showcasing all the commemorative Centenary Projects that have occurred throughout the year including the Online Auction, which ends tomorrow at 5pm. Here is the programme with more details of what to expect.

At the Midsummer Festival, we will also have the grand opening of the newly renovated Library. Of the amazing £32,000 raised by the community; we are currently underbudget and plan to put that money towards new books for the pupils. We are so grateful to all that have been part of this project and look forward to the pupils enjoying the space. The opening will start with a welcome talk at 12pm, in the Library, and will be available for all to view from 12.30 until 2pm.

We still have many more summer events to enjoy, including the Olympics, Class 12 Graduation and Italy trip, Sports Day, Class 8 Ball, Class 10 Work Experience, to name a few! This term is always the busiest but most fulfilling term of the year, and we are grateful for the dedication and commitment of our staff and community.

We are really looking forward to welcoming you all to the Midsummer Festival this weekend – it’s set to be a hot day!

Squash patch is coming on really well. I'm excited to sell varieties that include new the north Georgia Candy Roaster, Pink banana, kabocha, Hubbard, and delicata

They are growing through a plastic mulch. I'm using it for the squash to help manage the couch grass, next year I expect the weeds to be greatly weakened as the walled garden is brought into a new rhythm

Supporting PAPYRUS

James Kilfiger (Maths teacher and Class 10 Guardian) is raising funds for the national charity PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide to help save young lives

On Saturday June 21st, he'll be doing "The Longest Day" running challenge, running one mile on the hour every hour.

Suicide is the biggest killer of young people under the age of 35 in the UK. Every year up to 200 schoolchildren are lost to suicide.

Supporting PAPYRUS is very important to me, and I'm looking forward to raising money, increasing awareness of suicide prevention, and helping save young lives.

You can support my fundraising at https://justgiving.com/page/james-kilfiger-1
