Friday Flyer - 13th June 2025
Dear Michael Hall Community,
“Midsummer time should lift the human spirit into the light, as nature lifts her blossoms to the sun.”
— Rudolf Steiner
The sun, when it’s out, lays a soft gold over the fields and trees, and even when hidden, its warmth is felt in the energy moving through the school. These days before Midsummer are filled with something hard to name — a kind of lightness rising, a shared rhythm gathering speed.
The grounds are alive. There is colour, motion, and intention in every corner — not hurried, but full. Children carry music in their footsteps. Everything feels slightly tilted toward celebration.
This past week has felt particularly magical. Nicole & Martin’s white circus tent appeared like a dream on the hockey pitch — and walking into it was like stepping into a world entirely its own. For many of us, myself included, this was a first encounter with their work, and it was unforgettable. What they bring is something rare: precision, grace, humour, imagination, and a kind of soulfulness that speaks across age. Students and staff were utterly absorbed — lifted into a shared experience that felt timeless and alive. Their presence has been a true gift to our school.
All around that tent, another kind of magic is being made. Class 9 and Class 11 are deep in preparation for Fiddler on the Roof, which will form part of next week’s Midsummer celebration. Sets are being built, songs rehearsed, costumes made, cues practiced. Students are discovering new skills — and old ones are being stretched and sharpened. The dedication is real, and the work is being quietly and beautifully held by staff, parents, and the wider school community, all of whom are giving their time and energy behind the scenes.
Next week’s Midsummer Festival will bring all of this into focus. The grounds will be filled with music, games, art, and celebration. Our A-Level Art, Photography, and BTEC students will be presenting their final exhibitions — work created through months of thinking, making, questioning, and refining. Their pieces are full of voice and vision. They reflect the quiet intensity of creative growth — and they’re not to be missed.
This time of year always carries a kind of charge. It’s exciting. It’s exhausting. There’s so much happening at once — and at the heart of it all is the child: still learning, still growing, still taking it all in. That’s what we hold, together.
I feel very grateful to be walking through this moment with you all — watching the beauty of this place unfold in such surprising, moving, and joyful ways.
With warmth and awe for all that is unfolding,
Warm Regards,
Rebecca Lidert
