Friday Flyer - 23rd May 2025

Dear Michael Hall Community,

Plays, plays, plays and trips!

We are now well and truly in the season for even more plays, this week includes Class 8a 'Midsummer’s Night Dream' by William Shakespeare (all warmly invited Friday 23rd May in the theatre at 7.00 pm, no tickets required), Class 2a's play 'Where the Mountain meets the Moon' and Class 5a with their Greek play 'Prometheus the Fire Bringer'.

The Upper School, Classes 9 and 11 are fully involved in production rehearsals for the musical of  'Fiddler on the Roof' to be performed on Friday 20th June at 7.30pm and Saturday 21st June at 8.00pm. When one passes the Dick Chester early in the morning, you will hear singing, dancing, stamping and a lot of laughter.  Tickets will be available to purchase after half term.

All our plays are wonderful pedagogical opportunities for your young people to grow and experience learning in a far larger context than in the classroom. Often shining a light on hidden talents and tapping into new-found confidence.

To all of our young actors and actresses, musicians, set builders, theatre technicians, singers, dancers, costume creators – we can’t wait to see more!

I believe it is customary to say “Break a leg!”

Head of Lower and Middle School

Invitation from the Board of Trustees

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are delighted to invite you to meet our new Principal, Stuart McWilliams, at two upcoming informal gatherings.

Stuart is very much looking forward to getting to know the school community and would be pleased to meet you on either of the following occasions:

  • Monday 2 June, 6:00 – 8:00 PM
  • Monday 16 June, 6:00 – 8:00 PM
    Location: The Long Room

Stuart will also be attending these important events in the school calendar, the Midsummer Festival and the Class 5 Olympics.

These will be wonderful opportunities to introduce yourself and share in conversation as we look ahead to the next chapter for the school.

Kate’s Chorus raises another £400 for the Music Department!

Last Sunday, many of us came to hear Kate’s Chorus give their annual concert in the Long Room. This enthusiastic choir performed a wonderfully varied programme of songs, including Karl Jenkins The Armed Man, to a warmly appreciative audience. In addition, students from Classes 8 and 12 presented vocal and violin duets that were beautifully performed.

A huge thank you to Kate Smith for continuing to bring so much musical joy to our community and to the Chorus for the generous donation of £400 to Music at Michael Hall.

Kate writes: The Choir meets on Tuesday evenings from 7:45-9:00pm in the Eurythmy Studio, so if you’d like to join us, please contact [email protected] for further information.

Seeking Home to Rent

Our daughter will be joining Class 11 at Michael Hall next year, and we are looking for a home to rent beginning in mid-August.  We are a family from the US that has been living in the Netherlands for the past few years and is excited to be relocating to Forest Row to further our studies.  We are seeking a home with 3-4 bedrooms and some patio, garden or outdoor space.  There will be three of us (my husband, daughter, and I) living there full-time, but we also need room for guests and our two older daughters to easily visit.

Do you have a place or know of something that will be coming available soon?  Please reach out to me, Emily Merchant; [email protected]; +1-703-853-0987 (on WhatsApp).

We will be visiting and available to tour properties in June and early July.

Thank you for your assistance.  We look so forward to joining the community next school year!
