Friday Flyer                                                                                       28th February 2025

Dear Michael Hall Community,

As we step into the official start of spring this weekend, the school is buzzing with exciting events! Class 12 has been working incredibly hard on their dramatic production of The Crucible by Arthur Miller, with powerful themes of witchcraft, hysteria, religion, honesty and integrity. With another show tonight and the final performance tomorrow—don’t miss it!

Looking ahead, I'd like to let you know that tickets will be released next week for our much-anticipated black-tie Centenary Gala in May, which will focus on fundraising for centenary projects.

Next week is Shrove Tuesday and Classes 1-8 will celebrate this event with a parade, which parents are invited to watch, in front of the Mansion at 8:30am.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend in the spring sunshine

Jacqueline Courtenay
Head of Lower and Middle School

Teacher Feature

Renata Harkness- Deputy Head of Lower and Middle School at Michael Hall and Eurythmy, Psychology, and Foundation Maths teacher.

The daily interactions, connections, and relationships with both colleagues and students are one of the things Mrs Harkness values most at Michael Hall. Outside of school, she enjoys storytelling and creative writing, recently publishing a collection of whimsical short stories illustrated by her daughter, Sophia Harkness, a former pupil of Michael Hall. The Beebee and Tody Stories: available here (Link: https://olympiapublishers.com/books/the-beebee-and-tody-stories)

When she’s not teaching or writing, she finds joy in sunshine (or wearing yellow in its absence! ☀️) and coffee, which comes a close second. Looking ahead, she hopes to continue creating more stories and embracing the creativity that fuels her passion for education.

Spring has begun.

I'm chitting my 1st and 2nd early potatoes, exposing them to light and warmth encourages sprouts to form on the potatoes which can reduce the time to harvest. The earliest delicious new potatoes should be available in late May/June.

It's the last few weeks of the winter salads. I sowed them in September and as it's warming up now they've begun to go to flower.

I've got onions, leeks, broad bean and salad seedlings coming on.

This year I will be selling herb and vegetable plants, keep an eye out in April and May for these being sold.

If you'd like to receive regular lists of available biodynamic plants and produce from the walled garden, then please join the WhatsApp group through this invitation link-
