6th September 2024

Dear Michael Hall Community,

A very warm welcome back to everyone in our community, old and new. We got off to a wonderful start yesterday with an assembly filled with stories, laughter and beautiful singing. Class 12 welcomed Class 1 with a theatrical performance of a story about some forest animals sharing a home and then gave each Class 1 child a beautiful wrapped up bulb to plant on the school site. Mr. Harkness told his Class 1 (and the whole theatre) a lovely welcoming  fairytale story, we sang Mr. Rolton a Happy Birthday, and the Class Teachers and Guardians did a teaser sketch each about what is to come in the curriculum this year. Finally, all the teachers sang some songs we've been practising as a gift to the whole school.

In our Centenary year, our vision is to take Michael Hall to new heights. I talked to everybody on the INSET days about bringing forth new shoots from our original roots, combining the beautiful and insightful pedagogy of Waldorf education with an acknowledgement that we are in a new century and the progress that comes with it.

As you can imagine, my inbox is now pinging a lot  more regularly again with my new role and I do have a slight backlog at the moment, so please bear with me whilst I catch up.

In the meantime, I wish you all a good weekend of lie-in catch ups after our return to an early start!

Acting Principal

Dear All,

Next week, brass instruments return to Michael Hall. Whether someone wants to learn the trumpet, cornet, trombone, horn or euphonium; Joe Sharp will be teaching it.

We sent our collection of instruments to be refurbished over the summer and here they are back at school:

Brass instruments

These will soon be joined by some new instruments and all of these will be available to hire at the incredibly low sum of £30/term.

Joe Sharp will be giving demonstrations to Classes 4 and above in the coming weeks, but if you want to take advantage of our special offer, do not wait too long to sign your child up for lessons.

Introductory SPECIAL OFFER - for the first 10 applicants, we are offering 3 free lessons when you sign up for the first term. The standard terms and conditions apply.

If you would like to apply for lessons or arrange a try-out session, please fill in the forms on our Music page and return them to our Instrumental Tuition Coordinator, Rachel Masters [email protected] at your earliest convenience.

Best wishes,
The Music Department
