Friday Flyer - 19th June 2026
Dear Michael Hall Community,
Welcome to the heatwave! It has arrived just in time for a period in our school cycle where we meet and celebrate to mark the mid-year, graduations, celebrations and all other positive ‘tions’ that bring us together as a community around Michael Hall Waldorf School.
The midsummer festival marks one of the first days that I had visited the school after being appointed as the incoming Principal: it was very hot that day too! There is something reassuring that comes from seeing a cycle complete, but not one that is over. We will do it all again next year with some new faces, new energies, new ideas, new initiatives, and lots of new creativity and fun.
There is an amber heat warning in place, so please do:
New for this year is our relaunch of how we connect with all of our Old Scholars. I hope that all former pupils feel the draw to attend tomorrow and enjoy reconnecting with the school, the people and the history shared. Along with this is the launch of the Old Scholars’ Parents Group, welcoming all those who may not have been pupils at Michael Hall, but have been through the journey as a parent. Areas to meet, greet, connect and celebrate will be in front of the mansion not more than 20 yards away from each other.
In the interest of keeping this week's contribution to the Friday Flyer short and focused on midsummer, I will hold back on my reflections – which are coming thick and fast as I approach the end of my first year not only in Waldorf education, but at Michael Hall Waldorf School, a world-renowned institution.
I will not doubt see you all tomorrow.
Warm (over 30 degrees!) wishes,
Stuart

Principal

And what do you suppose
A bee sat on my nose!
And what do you think
I gave it a wink and said:
I beg you pardon, I am not your garden!!

June is an abundant time in the walled garden. I'm harvesting cauliflower, kale, lettuce, chard, beetroot, broad beans, new potatoes, and basil. There will be courgettes, carrots, tomatoes, aubergine, and chillis in no time.
The flowers are glorious, and are being used by the school and parents for our events.
If you would like to join our WhatsApp group and share in the harvest please click on the invitation link:

Dear Michael Hall Community,
In the 101st year of Michael Hall Waldorf School, I am pleased to announce the formation of a new group – the Old Scholars’ Parents Group.
As I hope you are all aware, graduates and former attendees of Michael Hall are called Old Scholars. This is a unique title which creates a sense of belonging and connection, and that is far more personal than just the generic ‘alumni’.
Whilst there is a special connection to the school for former pupils, we cannot forget that in our school, our parents contribute with passion, dedication and care (not to mention the fees!). I have not worked in a school where parents cook, bake, decorate, sell, fundraise, arrange, attend, and invest themselves as much as they do here – thank you for all that you do and have done.
Our parent body plays such an important role in making our school community the warm and vibrant one that it is. What the Old Scholars’ Parents Group will do is keep that connection alive after pupils leave. After possibly 16/17 years of being part of Michael Hall, as children move through the school, graduation or leaving the school can feel like a loss; this is particularly strong when the last child of a family leaves. I want us to stay connected, to attend events, to see the performances, to reminisce, to continue to support, and I want all of our Old Scholars’ Parents to feel welcome.
The official launch for the Old Scholars’ Parents Group will be on June 20th at the Midsummer Fair. Ami Nielsen (current parent) will be hosting the welcomes and collecting everyone’s details on the lawn at the front of the Mansion, not too far from the Old Scholar Reunions and the school merchandise stall. I cannot think of a more apt time to launch the group as the Midsummer Fair is such a well loved and well attended event in our annual calendar.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the upcoming events, and to seeing all Old Scholars’ Parents at the welcoming gazebo with Ami at the launch on the 20th of June, 1pm!
Warm wishes,
Stuart McWilliams, Principal

Ways to Contribute
If you feel you can help support the Blossom Fund, there are several ways you can give:
- One-off donations
- Standing orders
- Online contributions via our website
- Legacy gifts
- We are also exploring how charitable donations!
Donate Here
Every gift, large or small, will directly help open the doors of a Waldorf education to more children. To put some context, if we had 10 people donating £20 per month, that equates to 10% of a child's fees that we could support.
If you would like to find out more on how to donate, please email [email protected] or contact me directly.
