Class 6RG Play 'The Adventures of Tom Sawyer'
Class 6RG performed The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain as their Class 6 play. It was their first time performing a class play in the theatre and they had to overcome many issues, such as no black backdrop, speaking loudly enough, costume changes and making/using props.  Different p...

Fiddler on the Roof
It's almost two weeks since the Midsummer Festival and our last performance of Fiddler on the Roof, yet the music is still playing! In my Lower School Handwork lessons I have been regaled with If I were a Rich Man, Matchmaker and To Life (L'Chiam) with extraordinary precision both in pitch a...

The benefits of learning a musical instrument
A cello, violin or viola, or perhaps a bassoon or just a basket of firewood? I’m not talking about one of the well-known viola jokes (what is the difference between a violin and a viola -the viola burns longer), but whether or not your child picks out a couple of logs from your basket of firew...

The summer vegetables are starting to produce their fruits. Soon there'll be an abundance of Cucumbers, Jalapeños, Aubergine, and Tomatoes.

I'm now offering £10 and £20 veg boxes (£20 veg box example shown in photo). These boxes contain seasonal vegetables from the walled garden; they can change week by week in response to the changing seasons of the garden. If you'd like to buy some delicious Biodynamic vegetables but don't know what to order or want to try new things, try a mixed seasonal box. Here's a photo of me preparing the veg boxes and other orders in the pop up shop.

Applications for Instrumental lessons:

Class 3 this week and next have the privilege of listening to and being introduced to the side-flute, a range of brass instruments and the clarinet that we offer here at Michael Hall for pupils from class 4 and upwards, after their initial string experience this year.  All the instruments that we offer are taught by dedicated, highly experienced and professional visiting instrumental teachers who come in to teach on a weekly basis.

Children that do not yet play an instrument may like to consider starting to learn one in the Autumn term; a wonderful skill to have and scientifically proven to have many benefits. They will then also be able to be part of our school orchestras.

We are now receiving applications for a start in September 2025 and still have a limited amount of spaces left for the following instruments: Cello, Brass, Clarinet and Flute.

We look forward to receiving your applications in the next week, which can emailed directly to the instrumental coordinator: [email protected]

Any applications received after the 7th July, may need to be considered for a later start date.

Application forms, terms and conditions can be found here

Kidbrooke Park Music Festival

With the summer holidays fast approaching, we are again very busy planning our next exciting Kidbrooke Park Music Festival here at Michael Hall, which will take place on the weekend of 1 & 2 November. Keep the dates free! As ever, it promises to be a memorable weekend of incredible concerts.

We are inviting young musicians to form this year’s Festival Youth Orchestra and work with a group of professional musicians from a number of London’s top orchestras. On the programme is Vivaldi's famous Four Seasons and the Youth Orchestra will join the professional musicians in a brand-new piece written by the brilliant composer Jeff Moore, called ‘an Orkney Winter’.

As in previous projects, there will be parts for all orchestral instruments, at all levels from grade 1 to 8 and above. Violin, viola, cello, bass, clarinet, flute, oboe, bassoon, harp (both lever and pedal), and all brass instruments are welcome, as well as percussion players. Applications are now open; if you would like your child to participate, please fill it in and return via Reception, ideally before the end of term, clearly marked to KP Music Festival, Music Department.

For application form and further information, please see the KPMF website for more details. Kidbrooke Park | Kidbrooke Park Music Festival | Forest Row

Congratulations!

Congratulations to our talented pottery teacher, Ximena Heasman!
We're thrilled to share that Ximena recently took part in an exhibition in Penshurst, where one of her beautiful vases was purchased by the new British Ambassador to Panama. The vase is now on its way to Panama and will be proudly displayed in the British Embassy.

What an incredible achievement—well done, Ximena!

A big shout-out to Rachel, who was nominated by a member of her team for the Inspirational Mentor Award 2024/25—an incredible achievement in itself. We're delighted to announce that Rachel has won this prestigious award!

She has been invited to attend the Mentor Conference today, where her outstanding contribution to the development and success of students on placement will be formally recognised.

Congratulations, Rachel, on this well-deserved honour!

Seeking Home to Rent

Our daughter will be joining Class 11 at Michael Hall next year, and we are looking for a home to rent beginning in mid-August.  We are a family from the US that has been living in the Netherlands for the past few years and is excited to be relocating to Forest Row to further our studies.  We are seeking a home with 3-4 bedrooms and some patio, garden or outdoor space.  There will be three of us (my husband, daughter, and I) living there full-time, but we also need room for guests and our two older daughters to easily visit.

Do you have a place or know of something that will be coming available soon?  Please reach out to me, Emily Merchant; [email protected]; +1-703-853-0987 (on WhatsApp).

We will be visiting and available to tour properties in June and early July.

Thank you for your assistance.  We look so forward to joining the community next school year!
