13th December 2024

Dear Michael Hall Community,

It is an honour to be able to reflect on a fantastic term at Michael Hall. Commitment, creativity, love and imagination have underpinned all learning experiences from Early Childhood to Class 12, and I am always amazed to witness what we can achieve when we work together as a team. A big thank you to every colleague for the part each one of us plays to keep Michael Hall vibrant, afloat and moving forward. We experience “ups and downs”, but it would not be a learning environment if we did not take stock, learn, reflect and move forward with new ideas and trust.

Last Friday we had an Advent Festival of Music full of songs, instrumental music and readings of their own creative writing by some Class 9 students. Thank you to everyone who was involved in this festival.

On Monday morning, we started our last week of this term by celebrating our second Advent Assembly, when Classes 7 played a carrying role. When we are in the Mansion we can hear many carols, music being played, celebrations being held and final preparations taking place for the end of term. I am looking forward to our final assembly of the year and the staff production of The Shepherds’ Play, which is a gift from those involved to both our school community and our students.

I wish you all a light-filled, peaceful Christmas time, and I look forward to welcoming all of our students back to school on Three Kings Day, 6th January 2025.

Best wishes,

Michaela Devaris
Head of Upper School

Adult Movement and Games

Every Wednesday 8.15-9.10am- Enjoy a mid-week movement boost in good company.  We will combine rhythmic warm ups (skipping, juggling) with a variety of games and sports.  You will get an insight into aspects of the Waldorf Movement Curriculum and explore the original Bothmer Exercises, which reflect certain core principles which underpin our work.  These are drop-in sessions and all are welcome along with any questions that you may have.  Please bring a pair of clean indoor trainers and meet at reception by 8.15am.  We hope to build a strong group.

Warm Wishes, Arthur
On behalf of The Gym Team

Please help us promote Michael Hall

Do you live on a main road? We’re looking for parents who would kindly display a school advert board on their property to help promote our school to the community. We’ll take care of the installation and removal.

If you're willing to help, please contact [email protected].

Thank you for your support

Garden News

This month I have planted 10 pear trees, 5 different varieties: onward, doyenne du comice, Louise Bonne of jersey, concorde, and conference.

These trees are certified organic trees from Walcot organic nursery

https://walcotnursery.co.uk/

I'm currently building the frames to espalier train them, this is a space saving method that allows me to emphasise fruit production, it also adds structure to the garden and the pear flowers provide our bees with extra nectar in the spring.

Included is a photo of a mature pear espalier.  Unfortunately, we'll have to wait 4-6 years before they fruit. All fruit will be sold through our garden shop WhatsApp group

We are putting a call-out for anyone in the community that has photos of Michael Hall School through the ages.

Do you have an image of the playground before the gym or the theatre were built? Or maybe of the swimming pool when it was in use?

Hello, my name is Karla Hennig, I am 17 years old and attend a Waldorf school in Lübeck. Next summer from 30.06.2025 for two months to I have to do a social internship. My idea is to spend this time as an au-pair in England. I would like to live in a Waldorf family and take care of the little children and improve my English.
I have two younger brothers, a younger sister and an older sister. My hobbies are cooking and baking and I love spending time with my friends. If you are interested, I would love to hear from you! [email protected]
Many greetings, Karla Hennig
