10th May 2024

Dear Michael Hall Community,

It’s my pleasure to be writing the introduction for this week’s Friday Flyer and to introduce myself as the Head of Inclusion at Michael Hall, to those of you who don’t know me.

I was greeted this morning by the sunshine and the stunningly beautiful flower arch by the Mansion, for my first May Day experience at Michael Hall. Heralding the arrival of Spring, classes 1 – 5 processed down to the South Lawn where they greeted the Maypole and danced in joyous celebration of the end of Winter! It is a privilege to witness the children perform these cherished traditions and to celebrate this as a community alongside family and friends.

Our Upper School students continue to show their dedication, resilience and positivity as the season of examinations continues. It is also wonderful to witness, as an educator, teachers supporting students to realise that their journey is not just about reaching a destination, but about the transformation and growth that occurs along the way.

It has been a week of welcoming visitors and prospective new families at Michael Hall, as we held a lower and middle school open morning. Many staff members volunteered their time to lead tours and impart knowledge to those wishing to know more about the School and Waldorf Education.

This weekend brings the first Mansion Market of the year, with over 100 artisan stalls offering an array of goods, activities and experiences. I, for one, am looking forward to trying my hand at glass blowing!

Lastly, the first SEND Coffee morning will be held shortly after half term and you are very welcome to come along to discuss all things Inclusion at Michael Hall.

Wishing you a weekend of sunshine and al fresco enjoyment,

Chloe Martin
Head of Inclusion

Dear Community,

We are happy to be hosting our first Mansion Market of the year, an artisan market bringing a huge array of beautifully crafted gifts, food, and items for the home; how lucky we are to have such a wide range of offerings right on our doorstep! The day runs from 11:00-16:00pm and parking is free. All money raised from stall fees goes towards improving facilities for our students and supporting the school Therapy provision. Our market continues to attract new craftspeople and we are delighted to welcome 35 ‘new to us’ stallholders alongside over 60 of our regular stalls. In addition to 'The Elfin Grove' presenting us with a beautifully crafted puppet show ‘The Frog Prince’ see attached information, we will see the return of our therapy taster sessions offering Pranic Healing and Clairvoyance and we are excited to have our first live craft space where you can try your hand at glass blowing!

This event is a whole community endeavour and relies on volunteers to make it happen, as well as all the many visitors and shoppers that bring vibrancy, a community atmosphere and happy ambience. In addition to some very tasty treats offered by Fermento Bakery, The Nightjar Kitchen, Coffee Buzz and delicious food provided by Class 10 throughout the day in the Canteen, we have crystals, organic body products, jewellery, books, home fragrance, hand forged knives, pottery, tonics, terrariums, tie-dye children’s clothing, biodynamic garden plants, bags, leatherwork, rugs, recycled textile work, olives, cheese, household items, prints, yoga wear, cards, clothing, ceramics, and artwork, to name just a few. Do drop by for a browse, some shopping, to meet friends and to be part of this special event.

Looking forward to seeing both you and the sunshine there!

Kate’s Chorus buys two Clarinets for the Music Department!

On Saturday 4th May, many of us came to hear Kate’s Chorus give their first ever concert in the Long Room. This enthusiastic choir performed a wonderfully varied programme of songs to a warmly appreciative, capacity audience.

A huge thank you to Kate Smith for continuing to bring so much musical joy to our community and to the Chorus for the money they raised which enabled the School to purchase two Clarinets for Music at Michael Hall.

Kate writes: The Choir meets on Tuesday evenings from 7:45-9:00pm in the Eurythmy Studio, so if you’d like to join us, please contact [email protected] for further information.
