22nd March 2024

Dear Michael Hall Community,

This week has brought us yet another unexpected challenge - the discovery of a large sink hole near to our Middle School building. I am incredibly grateful to all those parents who have been able to make emergency arrangements to collect their children early, as a result. I also really appreciate your words of support and understanding in these trying times. Please do extend your gratitude towards my colleagues who, as always, have leapt into crisis management action and demonstrated a deep and reassuring calmness in the face of ongoing adversity.

Despite the events of the last two days, we have still managed to press ahead with four, far more positive offerings this week: Class 8a's play, 'The Dark is Rising', the Lower and Middle School Spring work day, our Upper School Spring Festival and the Lower and Middle School Eurythmy Festival.

All three productions showcased the incredible talents, perseverance and collaborative qualities of our students, young and old, and they should all feel hugely proud of their achievements on the stage. Thanks must also go to all colleagues and parents who brought these productions to fruition, through rehearsals, line learning, costumes and refreshments.

The Spring work day gave our older classes in Middle School the opportunity to work alongside their peers in Lower School, which is always a joy to watch. Much clearing and pruning of the site took place during a highly industrious morning around the grounds, along with the construction of bug hotels, singing of songs and enjoying of camp fires. It really was a wonderful day and hopefully one that will become a regular fixture in the rhythm of our school calendar.

As the term draws to a close, I continue to reflect on the beauty that surrounds us here at Michael Hall: the daffodils are in bloom, the days are feeling longer and, dare I say, a little warmer, and tasks feel a little lighter to address. Spring is coming, giving us all the strength and determination to rise to meet new challenges, whatever they may be.

My warmest wishes to you all for a wonderful Easter,

Sarah Stokes
Principal

In loving memory of our beloved Elaine Nunhofer
(21st August 1941-15th March 2024)

Remembering dear Elaine Nunhofer, who died on Friday 15th March 2024, at home surrounded by family.
Elaine went to Michael Hall as a pupil, joining in class 6, when she came over to the UK from Venezuela. She went on to marry her classmate, Paul Nunhofer. In her early twenties, she became a teacher at the school, initially teaching French and German and then later as a Class Teacher.

Elaine leaves behind her two children, Nicholas and Miranda Nunhofer and her grandchildren.

Scholastic Bookfair

After a successful Bookfair last year, the Scholastic Bookfair is returning to Michael Hall!

To kick start the Summer Term, there will be a bookfair covering classes 1 to 12 back in the Black and White Hall from the end of the lower school day, until 4:30 Monday to Thursday.

Both Cash and Card will be accepted and a wide range of books will be on offer.

As before, the more books that are sold, the more books the school also receives in recognition of those sales. Last year we were able to buy several hundred pounds worth of free books as a result!

Please also do not forget that we are also raising money to refit our school library, and donations can be made via contacting Colin in finance on: [email protected] or by making a donation via this link: Library Fundraising (michaelhall.co.uk)

Accomodation needed

Looking for a 1 or 2 bed property to rent in or around Forest Row. I'm a full-time Gardener at Emerson College, and I'm looking for a place to make my home. A garden would be wonderful. I can provide excellent references and will need to give 1 month's notice to where I am now. Please do get in touch if you know of anything. Thank you so much, Janine 07940 361607 or email [email protected]

Our lovely Family Rosewood 'Petit' Grand piano (4' 4"), a 1930's Rogers Eungblut bought in Harrods, needs a new Foster Home!

It has previously been at St. Bernards RC Church in Lingfield, but due to refurbishments, can no longer be kept there.

The arrangement would be long term 'loan' (with option to cease with 2 months notice). Tuning to be done 2x year by user. (I insure the piano). The removal cost from church to new home would be equally shared. Ideally looking for a local home in F.Row area. Option to buy at £2,500 may be possible.

Kindly ring or text  Mrs. Kate Simmons (local piano teacher) on 0798 915 4243 and if interested a viewing can be arranged.
