19th January 2024

Dear Michael Hall Community,

This week has been a busy time at our school, and it was glorious to be out and about in this chilly winter weather with the fields covered in frost and sparkling in the sunlight.

In the Upper School, Classes 10 and 12 continued to sit their Mock Exams, superbly organised by our Exam Coordinators, Emily Worth and Alex Gearing. The students considered this an immensely helpful experience, but towards the end one could feel that they were tired and relieved that it was coming to a close.

Class 11 was terribly busy in the Theatre preparing for their TALENT SHOW this evening. Students have prepared dances and skits, have created their own props, and arranged the auditions for the many talented members of our school. It is delightful to watch how everyone finds tasks drawing on their own personal strengths and gifts.

On Saturday 20th January 2024, our School will be celebrating 99 years since it first opened its doors to pupils. During this last week, I found myself thinking several times about this important occasion.

What does such a span of time mean for an organisation, and how can we mark such an extraordinary achievement? How can we celebrate and share this occasion whilst looking back to try and understand what the past has taught us? How do we prepare for a future which meets the needs of our young people? Personally, I have discovered that thinking about how we might celebrate Michael Hall’s Centenary in a year’s time has brought joy, a freshness and a lightness into this second week of the Epiphany.

Enjoy today’s Talent Show!

Gym Department News

There are some spaces left for a basketball outing on 19th May 2024 to watch the British Basketball League playoffs for both the men's and women's teams'.

This is a day trip open to classes 6-12.

If you would like to reserve a spot and have not done so already, please email [email protected].

This is the second time we are doing this trip, which was much enjoyed by students last year. The cost is kept low by a group booking price for both the event tickets and the train fare.

I will need to finalise numbers shortly so look forward to hearing from you soon if your child(ren) would like to take part.

Parent Movement Sessions

Dear Parents,

We would like to invite you to join us for some playful games and conscious movement sessions on Wednesday mornings.  You will get a chance to meet other parents in a fun and interactive way, ask questions about the Waldorf movement curriculum and learn a series of Bothmer exercises to help bring a drop of balance and harmony to the week.

The sessions are drop-in, free and all are welcome.  All you need is a pair of indoor trainers and a willingness to move and play.  We meet and register at 8.20am in reception.

Please email Arthur on [email protected] if you have any questions.
