Students celebrate exam success

We are delighted to announce that our students taking their A2 exams this year have cause to celebrate according to results released last week.  Of those students taking their A2 level exams this year, 94% achieved grades A-C, compared with a national average of 76.2%. Of these a phenomenal 47% gained A* or A grade (national average 27%) and 70% obtained A* to B grades (national average 52.6%).  This is a wonderful achievement and testament to the hard work of students ..read more

School grounds open to public as part of National Gardens Scheme

This Saturday 11th June Michael Hall will once again be opening its grounds up to the public as part of this national scheme to make otherwise private gardens accessible to the public. Kidbrooke Park is a Listed Landscape designed in the 18th century by world renown Landscape Designer Humphry Repton. The 60 acre grounds boast a wealth of notable features including waterfalls, a Doric temple, a water garden, 2 lakes and a number of unusual specimen trees.

Whole School Open Morning

Friday 4th March Registration 08:30 in the Mansion. Tours from 09:00-11:30. An opportunity to see the school from Early Years to Class 12 (age 18) in progress. Kindergarten Talk – 25th January 20:00

We warmly invite you to come and listen to Sally Schweizer, Kindergarten teacher, mother and author of “Well, I Wonder” and “Under The Sky”, give an introduction to the world of wonder in early childhood.  Sally will respond to anything you would like to ask about the young child. Class 11 Option Evening – Wednesday 17th November

Michael Hall achieves 100% A-Level Pass Rate

Michael Hall achieved a 100% 2010 pass rate for its A-Level students. The overall percentage of students achieving A grade was also high at 46%, exceeding the national average of 27%. Subjects where students achieved particularly outstanding grades were Maths, Art and Languages.  Many students have been offered their chosen University place, such as Architecture at Portsmouth and History at Sussex, although have opted to take a year out before they begin their degree course.

“Greatest unacknowledged health scandal..”?

TV should be banned for toddlers and severely rationed for other youngsters to protect their health and family life, a leading psychologist will tell MEPs today. Dr Aric Sigman claims that millions of children spending hours slumped in front of TVs and computers is ‘the greatest unacknowledged health scandal of our time’. Walled garden gets unblemished organic certification

“A very interesting example of a diversified, locally adapted Bio-Dynamic market garden.”

That was the conclusion reached by the Inpsectors from Demeter who came to check the walled garden here at Michael Hall as part of their certification programme.

Demeter is an voluntary international organisation which certifies growers who offer organic and biodynamic produce. Golden oldie – Eton head advises no more than 5 GCSEs

Teenagers should take no more than five GCSEs, the head master of Eton College told a conference yesterday.

Tony Little called for an end to the culture of pupils sitting a dozen GCSEs, saying schools would be better off using the extra time creatively.

He also said the system should be radically altered so students apply to university after they receive their A level results.
